Gutenberg, Johannes
   Johannes Gutenberg (v.1400 – 1468) est considéré comme l’inventeur de l’imprimerie moderne dans les années 1450. Il est en effet le premier imprimeur à utiliser des caractères métalliques mobiles. Il aurait imprimé 180 exemplaires de la Bible dans son atelier de Mayence (Allemagne). 48 exemplaires, dont certains incomplets, existeraient toujours. La version numérique de la Bible de Gutenberg est mise en ligne en novembre 2000 sur le site de la British Library. La numérisation est l’oeuvre de chercheurs et experts techniques de l’Université Keio de Tokyo et de NTT (Nippon Telegraph and Telephone Communications), venus travailler sur place à l’aide de matériels hautement sophistiqués. Gutenberg donne aussi son nom au Projet Gutenberg, fondé en juillet 1971 par Michael Hart pour devenir la grande bibliothèque mondiale d’oeuvres littéraires du domaine public au format texte.
